Bagiennik

Bagiennik are odd, bog dwelling creatures known for causing mischief and healing the injured, depending on their mood. Exceptionally odd looking, with webbed claws, bulbous eyes, woody skin, and two slits on their face that ooze an oily black substance, they spend most of their time heavily coated in muck and slime they dredge up from the depths of marshy water. They are quite moody creatures, quick to respond with violence if interrupted during their “bathing” sessions, and prone to random acts of both charity and trouble without clear cause for either.

While in a good mood, it will seek out the wounded and sick to try and heal. When driven to chaos, a bagiennik will spray caustic oil over animals and people, burning them recklessly. Even in its worst mood however, few bagiennik wish to cause actual death, and so they will tend to the wounded, trying their best to ensure all survive, grumbling all the while at the annoyance of doing so. Villages near a bagiennik’s lair will keep a watch out for it, and the injured and sick will approach whenever it appears. The rest of the populace will stay out of sight, hoping that it simply provides as much care as it can before moving on without sparking any rage. Some however will hunt the bagiennik to try and harvest its oil. The oil can be refined easily into strong acid, but so far no one has managed to figure out how to reproduce the healing effect, and some alchemists pay handsomely to get bagiennik oil to continue experimenting.

13th Age

Bagiennik
3rd level leader [aberration]
Initiative: +6
Claws +8 vs. AC – 8 damage.
R: Acid Spray +8 vs. PD (one nearby enemy) – 8 acid damage.
Natural Even Hit: The target is also hampered (save ends).
Natural 18 or 20: 1d4 enemies nearby the target are also hampered (save ends).
Healing Oil: As a standard action, the bagiennik can spread its healing oils over a willing or unconscious creature engaged with it. The target regains 2d8 hit points, but for the rest of the battle it must roll a save at the start of each of its turns; on a failure, it loses its move action that turn. Succeeding on 3 saves ends the effect entirely. Additional uses of this action impose a cumulative -1 penalty on these saves and reset the number of saves needed to remove the effect.
