Burrowling

Burrowlings are intelligent, humanoid prairie dogs. Adults stand between two and two and a half feet tall generally. They are omnivorous, living in large burrow communities of extended, integrated families. Burrowlings are incredibly communal, raised from birth among massive groups of young, reaching adulthood in a year and becoming deeply tied to their community. Most can’t stand isolation, and lone burrowlings that have lost their community almost always become despondent and die within a week, though a few have managed to find new burrowlings to bond with.

Even rarer, one has settled into a non-burrowling community, though there is often a clash between the burrowling and its new neighbors as it gets used to the greater individualism of other people. Their attempts to anticipate needs and integrate itself are often seen as intrusive and discomforting, a clash that the burrowling struggles to overcome.

Burrowlings have very short life spans, generally only living up to 15 years.
